Momoi Diamond leader and silver lock sleeves

    Guys,

I'm switching a lot of my rigs over to Diamond 130 and 200 pound test. I bought the silver lock sleeves in 1.35 and 1.6. These are perfect for the loop or a connection without a pin but with the pin involved, their is not enough room in the sleeve. I noticed last night while looking at various web sites that their is also a sleeve that 1.5 and then 1.8. Are these the ones I'm looking for when connecting the hook/pin connection on my meat rigs?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm using 1.5 for my pins on my 130 rigs. I don;t tie anythign in 200 so I'm not sure about that one. Just be very careful with your crimp making sure everything gets situated right where it should be while you are crimping.

Thanks. I'm pretty meticulous with my crimping but have had a lot of leader failures (not crimps) the past couple of seasons via Suffix 130 so I'm switching...and going heavier.

My main reason is that last year in particular, I ran my long riggers with 130 fluro...not a damn tuna on them. My shotgun bait is 250 Ande (larger bait) which is thick as cable and sure enough, tunas bit it no problem. I also ran some heavier stuff in short and it produced fine. I believe that off Virginia when our tuna are biting, you can rig up heavier and catch fish. I like bites but not break off's!!!!! I can always scale back to 130 or 100 if I have to.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

Questions which may be helpful for us to understand
    1. What lb gear and line are you using
    2. Trolling bait, but for what, specifically tuna?
    3. how much drag do you have at strike?

seems like overkill on the leader material. I went up to 100 lb last year only because the whities were chaffing the 80#. I don't think for trolling that fluro is necessary. I also really don't like aluminum crimps.

I troll mainly International 50's (regulars and wides). Mainly 80 pound Suffix or Momoi diamond.

Troll mainly ballyhoo - mediums and selects behind either witches, small and up to larger Ilanders depending on bait size. I will also pull lightweight spreaders from the riggers and heavier spreaders off a rod tip.

We have a mixed bag round these parts...Yellowfin, Bluefin (50-100 pounders usually), Mahi, Wahoo and white/blue marlin. If I target whites in particular, all of this changes as I scale down my tackle and change my spread. I am not really a hardcore marlin guy.

Drag at strike not overly heavy...probably around 15 pounds is the norm. I know I can go higher with the 80 pound mainline but I like to keep it backed off of strike and then apply more heat as needed.

Suffix 130 is very thin. Probably the same as Ande 100. The Momoi Diamond 130 looks to be the same as the Suffix 150 but I know it tests higher. I inspect and change leaders a lot and when I see break offs, it is unacceptable (in the numbers I saw on a couple trips) so I'm moving to the 130 diamond...and will use the 200 behind my larger baits as well as behind spreader bars where leader size does not matter.

I fully understand you can fish with lighter leader but the main reason I am switching is I have not seen it make much of a difference around here.

Suffix 130 is very thin. Probably the same as Ande 100.

    Sufix 130 = 1.20mm. ANDE 100 = 1.00mm

Sufix 130, Momoi Hi-Catch 130 and Izorline 130 are all the same diameter, 1.20mm.

15#'s at strike seems a little high to me. I usually run 10-12#'s which most would consider to be pretty high.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I'll just order those larger crimps and see how well they work for my pin rigs...and hopefully this Diamond leader will work out.

Hi Glenn, I have been using the Momoi Diamond line ever since it came on the market. Great line and it does over test. I found that using a 1.3 double copper sleeve on the loop or swivel end and a 1.6 double copper sleeve on the hook and pin end works the best. Not as much problem with electrollisis between different metals either. I have never had one come apart!

Thanks Joe...the main reason I asked about the 1.5's is that the 1.6 crimps (from Momoi) are much longer than I'm used to using.

    Appreciate the response.
