    Moldcraft prices. WOW!

I like to pull Moldcrafts. Sue me. I think they make great teasers when daisy chained together and on the now and then, when we catch our meatfish early, I don't think there's anything wrong with easing offshore and pulling four or five of them trying to get a big bite. So, I was in Wilmington two days ago and stuck my head into a smaller, fairly well known tackle store near the beach, which will remain nameless. They were charging $37.99 for the senior size (widerange, superchugger, reel tight) AND you had to by the interior skirt seperately!!! For another $7.50!!! Anybody want to sound off on this. As someone who works in the tackle business (and sells the same product for a lot less) this is hard to fathom. I'm not trying to call anyone out or drum up business where I work (hence no names of either establishment) but I'm wondering why. Did our oil crisis (I guess there is a fair amount of petroluem in a Moldcraft) hit the lure market as well? Is rent really that high on that side of town? It's America, and we can charge what we want, for whatever we want, but that theory (along with the horizontal integration of many companies, i.e. those that deal in petroleum) has us teetering on the edge of huge recession/depression. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

Depends on the area. If the store has a really high turnover of offshore stuff, the prices are usually lower.

I have seen $35 Ilanders in stores that don't sell many, and really busy offshore outfitters they are going for like $20. Where we fish out of, you can't even find Moldcrafts in the shops. All you come across is Greenies, Zukers, Cedars, and the occasional small Moldcraft chugger.

I think the bottomline remains...if you are going through your tackle the day before heading to the edge, and you realize you are missing a Pink/Blue Wide Range Standard, that $37 to have it won't seem all that bad.

That's a little steep! I have still been able to find them every once in a while for $22 for the senior. They are our bread and butter in Costa Rica. Great all around lure!

I don't know about that. If I bought one of those lures with the interior skirt I'd be up to almost $46. A Black Bart Big Rock Plunger (one is sitting on the floor next to my desk right now) has a price tag of $65, which is set by the Black Bart Company. I can re-skirt the Black Bart lure an infinite amount of times if it gets hit by a wahoo. I wonder how Frank Johnson would feel about his lures being sold at that same price point. I always felt like he was trying to offer a good lure at the right price. This kind of invalidates that concept, dontcha think?

Damm thats higher then the price of the "magnum" WR . Having to pay for the inner skirt when you get the lure is something too haha. Some shops online sell them for 9$ for the inner so for that its actually better.

The senior wr goes from 23 to 27 online plus we can choose up to 30 colors. I would be shocked to see such high price on a local shop lol. I remember once seeing a purple wr sell for 45$ on ebay!

Thanks for the shout Capt. I've actually bought a bunch of them from you in the past--stocked up on sea witch heads and hair at your place as well. You guys have always done right by me--listen up guys--if you're in the Morehead area and need supplies, hit up Shutes. Good custom rods in the store, too.

If he sells them for 37, good for him. If he wasn't selling them they would cheaper. This is America.
