September 2006 Saltwater Magazine had a write up on them, but they said to use Krylon plastic spraypaint. I made two of the sweetest looking Mahi-mahi fender teasers. They never dried . I got that paint everywhere!!!

I will try the other paints mentioned.

Melton International has them for sale if you don't want to paint them yourself.

Pakulas and pins are both hard on the fish and the boat. I've always felt that a whack the bill, head or even jaws by a Pakula in particular must be a way negatory experience for a fish that does one of those things to it, or has it do one of them to him. Toads are fisherman and boat friendly as can be and I've never seen a fish turned off by one, whether it slugged him, he slugged it, or whatever. Most fish are initially attracted to the Toad and then switch right over to the lures or booby trap. Twice I have had big black marlin eat a non-booby trapped Toad. Both fish busted our Toad line. One froggy floated back up top a minute later. We never saw the other one...Burp!

Running one down the middle depends on the rod holder layout, whether it's a double outboard or a big battlewagon. I always have a center stern holder for my teasers. I much prefer all of them raising hell in the middle of the lures than up on the corners or out on the flank. There are times when I stick an UpRigger (you guys have no idea what you're missing!) in that center holder and run the Toad off the lower arm and a big, splashing surface teaser off the upper rod. One way or another, you couldn't pay me to fish without teasers on my lures and in my pattern. They make a huge difference.

Yes, you can run a Toad off of an upright rod and reel. You will get a great feel for what that thing is doing down there if it is out of site by watching the rod - it will look exactly like you have a school tuna up and have locked up on him, or he is darting around, chasing bait. I'm sure that is the same excited sound that the Toad sends all over the water column. I wouldn't run it on anything less than eighty pound string with the drag locked up. If there are blues around you'll want the boat to pull the Toad out of their mouths if any of them grab it. If not, they'll run a long, long ways with it.

Roger on the SWS article. I was supposed to write that one, but was too busy at the time, so someone else did. Paint can be an issue alright, but there are some types that work and many that don't.

Yes, you can buy Toads, but the first thing that I would do with one would be to cut the plastic mackerel off of it, which is throwing money away. They are so simple and inexpensive to make, I really can't imagine buying one unless I was in a pinch.

Anthony. Wow! Eighteen years ago! I wish I had known that skipper and I wish I knew about Toads that far back; he was way ahead of his time and I just love being around that sort. Now don't you make me come over there - make one up and fish it again!

Speaking of ahead of its time...these things blow my mind! Pick up a few heads and "skirt shoulders", a bunch of skirts and you've got any color you could possibly think of. Skirt destroyed on a favorite lure? Grab a pair of skirts and re-skirt it without unrigging the lure and that lure is back in business in about as long as it took you to read this! Just a few of our skirt colors included.

As one of the door prizes of the WAHOONBOX Rigging School - Edgewater Edition - I received my fender teaser compliments of the bird himself.

AWESOME job putting them together T! I got a green one but there were also some purples and a couple of 'Muff Diver' pink ones. It's amazing the stuff that comes out of that garage!! Can't wait to try it out.........
