    mid january long weekend

My company is closed MLK day January 19th which gives me a somewhat useless long weekend in mid January.

Looking for an easy Boston -> somewhere cheap 3 day getaway. WPB/Miami is obviously one option; I've been doing that 25 years and know the crap shoot on weather, especially w/ the hopes of a swordfish trip.

Is the AJ/Grouper bite in NC on then or is weather to iffy that time of year to realistically pick a 3 day window and hope to get out twice.

Venice/oil rig bouncing in Jan? Is that feasible or also iffy due to long runs and winter weather conditions?

You could always go sailfishing in the keys...

5-7 mile run, and if its rough, its usually still fishable as long as its under 30 knots

Forget NC in January. Grouper fishing will be closed. Amberjacks can be found but will require long runs and the weather too unpredictable in January to give you 2 out of 3.

I agree that middle to lower keys is the way to go, due to the short runs for sailfish, reef fish and even swords.
Scott Walker (tailwalker charters out of Duck key http://www.tailwalkercharters.com/ ) will definitely catch you a sword if the weather is doable. If not, he'll catch you tarpon.

    Good luck,

    LB,

Venice has been in the back of my mind for a while now. I don't know anything about it. So I vote for you to go scout it out for me....
