I think it depends a lot on where you fish, down south the main targeted fish are billfish, so that is typically all that are flown down there with good reason. In the NE there are far less billfish caught, there are times where the bite can be good, but the main quarry are meat fish, and as some have stated, not as many guys run offshore up my way so flying them can be fun. I typically will only fly meat flags when we've had a banner day, but I also agree, I don't want to fly them if I'm in a rush because they do attract attention to fish and game, I have nothing to hide, just sometimes feel like getting in quickly without being bothered. I will always fly flags for billfish, meat fish depends on my crew and our mood, but if the catch was good they often go up.

Here is a picture of my long time friend who I don't get to fish with much anymore because of family, work etc. Was happy as could be putting the flags up. At the end of the day that's what it's about having fun. Don't be a hater, relax a little bit.

    EXACTLY!!

Ive been on both sides of this issue. I flew flags for many years and believed that it booked trips. That was also back when we had tons of people walking the docks because of shanty town. Now it seems that we have very little dock traffic and book very few charters off the dock. From a charter perspective it is very hard to come in from a tough day of fishing with a charter who had a bad day to have to see riggers full of flags. They already know they had a bad day without having to see what everyone else caught. We have all been there, we all have bad days, and it just seems that the flags make that charter that had a bad day feel that much worse. I don't condem anyone for flying flags because I did it for many years, but this may be one of the reasons some choose not to fly meat fish flags.

Here in Florida the Fish and Game guys are always out looking to measure someones fish. They change the regulations every week and a violation requires a court appearance. Thus, not only do we not fly flags, we hide our poles on the way home and try to sneak in after dark if possible.

So in other words you're a complete asshole trespassing on someone elses boat destroying property because you dont like their catch flags. Damn not only do we have the fish cops, now we have flag cops. You sir are a douche bag, I wish someone like you would do that to my boat, of course Im sure you only have the stones to do that when no ones around.

Remember, don't take your trips on the ocean for granted...each one is like an adventure, and a lot of people will never get to experience that thrill. If flying a flag makes you and your crew happy...do it. I don't fish to impress anybody.

    i'm with you...

I wouldnt do this in carolina, but our charters here ask for and expect to see a flag for every fish.

Most every one of them will take pictures of the flags hanging, so they must like it!

We do our own thing in Chinco, it helps drum up business at the dock bar.

A Lady on the last trip wanted to know where her skippy flag was...

they do come down every night.

    This was meatfish release day.
