I will probably be visiting Playa Del Carmen (or nearby) again this year and would like to hear about anyone's fishing experiences. Not only charters but I usually carry some of my own gear in case there is an opportunity to use it.

have a great trip..
I did a charter out of that area about 3 years ago. We pulled in a few small fish on the troll but the fishing was slow that December. I haven't been there enough to give you a lot of details. I even forget the name of the charter area. I think they also did 4 wheel tours. It was about a 45 minute ride from the hotel, somewhere between there and Cancun. The last half mile was down a path through the brush. A good day on the water regardless.
The resort we stayed at was great and I just found it online again. Royal Hideaway Playacar

Good luck on the trip, let us know how it goes.

What month will u be fishin' the Roo? Boating or surf? There's a guy on this board with a charter boat near Playa del Carmen...."wasabi" i think...he'll be around here sooner or later. All my contacts are in Coz.
U could look up wasabi in member lists and check some of his post and give him a call. There is some outragous flats fishing in some of the bays (so to speak) on the mainland side that'll make u throw stones at most other places. Hard to access other than by another boat though.

We stayed in Playacar the last trip. Very nice and convenient as well. Being the adventourous type, we are looking at renting a small house/villa or maybe a small boutique hotel this time. All-inclusives are nice if you are going to lounge around a lot but we stay on the go usually. Probably check out Xcaret as we did Xel-ha last time. Visited many ruins last time as well so hoping the wife will allow for more fishing time!
Most of the fishing calenders would indicate this to be optimum time for pelagics. We'll take some charters plus I'd love to to wing it myself some. I love surf-fishing but will not carry my big gear though I do have a four piece 11 footer that should work. I also carry a lightweight and mediumweight spinning setup and maybe my 7 weight flyrod.
Contact Capt Ricks in Port adventours.I have fished on the Perla several times for half day trips in June and July and had great sucess with bill fish. The above boat may now be part of Ricks but I may be wrong.I have talked to the mates down there and they said an all day trip in april or may should give you a chance at multiple shots at bills. Also be real careful who tries to pick up a charter at the beach.Saw some people come back not doing so well.I did take out a panga That i met Infront of the Iberastar Tucan and did reel well good luck.
