Maui, Hawaii -- Living the Dream.

Maui Fish Report
Sunday, 9-14-08

Aloha Folks!!!

Ono Noah checking in here and hoping that you and everyone in your life is doing well.

Well it has been a few exciting days of fishing to say the least. The bite has been on and it sure has been fun!!!

On Thursday, Captain Mark Davis 'Beefy' was up to his usual routine of fishing and managed to pull in 28 nice Mahis.

Congratulations to 'Beefy', and the Anglers, Jeff Ickler's family!!!

Leo from Colorado got a few nice YFT, and a nice Wahoo (Ono).

Jen and Stew from Arizona got in a Mahi pile themselves!

George from Texas 'enjoyed the time on the water', he also enjoyed putting the Weber to use with this nice Mahi!

On Friday, Captain 'Beefy' gave me the call to let me know they had a nice day on the water. 38 Mahi Mahi, 4 Ahi, Tag
and Release an estimated 175 Bronze whaler, the pirate flag was flying!!!

Congratulations to Dallas from Calgary, good job out there!!!

On Friday, I happened to get an opportunity to go out and do some fishing with the boys, Captain 'Skillet' and Yukka.

We did our usual midnight bait fish trip, and had a few nice Opelu (Mackerel) in the salt water tanks.

We headed out to the grounds, to a beautiful sunrise.

Nasa buoy (MO) was our first destination.

Dropped in the first live bait, and got hooked up instantly.

We headed over to K buoy and got a few nice Ahi.

Beautiful islands of Lana'i (right) and Moloka'i (left)

I got in on the 'Action' as well.

Click this link for video of a nice Mahi on the line, 0:49 second mark.

On the trip home, saw some nice dolphins.

Cliffs of Lana'i.

The island of Moloka'i.

Maui, the Valley Isle -- Home sweet home!

When we got back to the docks, we proceeded to hang our catch of the day!!! I had fun bringing in these two Mahi, they put up quite the fight!!!

Mike and Jason from California 'had an unbelievable day!!!' Nice to meet you guys, come back soon!!!

I have traveled the hillsides abroad, surfed the distant seas, and fished far off lands -- there is no place like home. If I could, I would like to dedicate this space to appreciate the folks, such as yourself, who make this all possible. Thank You.

I'd say cookie cutter shark bites as well. Perfect, round little bites!

Noah, this is your best report to date and they have been very good of late.
Excellent action shots. Glad you got to crank a couple of big ones in.

Keep the good stuff coming!

Good report Ono and great shots.

Does your charter get to go out on the midnight bait runs and then to the fishing grounds or do you go back and pick them up? If they go with you, how many hours are they on the boat?

Ah, cookie cutters make a lot of sense. What nasty little buggers they are huh? Those are some sizable chunks that are missing.

What I find amazing...

is how the little buggers catch pelagics. Those little sharks are only a foot long or so. Once they latch on, the tuna or wahoo or whatever does the rest of the work for them by shaking them loose. I would love to see some video of a cookie cutter "attack" but have never heard of one. I am guessing they swim into a mass and just bites as the school swims around it.
