Match the hatch.... Squids

I did an overnighter two nights ago. As usual, I planned on dropping some squids for swords during the night, so I brought some squids. Everyone usually has their own opinion on what size of a squid is the right size, but I generally go with the thought that I use smaller squids in the spring and larger squids in the fall. Well, one of my buddies who does a bit of sword fishing got on me about the size of squids I was using in this fall, saying mine were too big. I have been buying korean squids from the asian market, and these things are about 18'' long. We always see squids in the lights at night and sometimes we catch them. This time when we were out, I made a bit more of an effort to catch the squids and we did. We caught about 30 of them. Surprisingly, the squids we were catching were BIGGER than the korean squids I have been buying. Most squids we caught were over 12'' long and some were even 24'' long and as big around as a baseball. Unfortunately, we did not get to catch a sword on them because the sharks were eating them as fast as we could catch them. We caught tunas and further inspection of the tunas showed they had large squids in them as well. the point of this post isnt that all the squids out there arent the little 6''ers that come in the box. There's some big ones out there right now and you guys fishing out of oregon inlet might like to know there are things like this guy here out there, so pull your big bars. This one was 24'' long and is not fish food. He is currently chopped into little pieces and getting fried up as fresh calamari fritters as I type this up.
