Fishing report for June 2009

Tuna: The tuna fishing has been phenomenal for the month of June, The Mass Bay Guides Boats and Guides, have produced over 75 Bluefin tuna. Including 2 Giants, The Labrador had a 75" fish and the Fortuna had a 77" fish. Both fish toped the scales at 250lbs. Netting the customers a 1/3 cut of the price of the fish. The fish sold for $5.00 per pound.

Striped Bass: The Striped Bass fishing is better than it has been in 100 years. The boats and Guides of Mass Bay Guides have produced boat limits every day for June. There have been over 25, fifty inch or bigger fish caught by our boats this month alone. Comments by our customers have been nothing but fantastic.

Ground Fish: ( Cod, Haddock and more...) The Ground fishing is getting back to outstanding. We have been limiting on Cod every trip, with counts of 150 cod per boat. This June has been incredible for the numbers of Cod but the size has been averaging only 30". With some of the restrictions on commercial fishing, we expect to start seeing the 30 pounders and bigger to start coming back strong. All of the other varieties of Bottom fish are not included with a limit so the Mates have been knee deep in fish by the end of the day.

Shark fishing: We are gearing up for our first Shark trip starting July 1st. We have already caught a couple of Sharks while bottom fishing, but have reeled to no avail. Due to, cod fishing gear just cant hold up to those sharp teeth. Reports of Mako shark and Porbeagle shark bitting the hook have been made all over the bank.

Remember: We can combine all or some, of these types of fishing on any full day charter with Mass Bay Guides.
