Question Marlin - Release or Kill.... Let's Hear It!!

OK I'm asking for everyone's personal opinion...

Should marlin be harvested or released?

If so under what circumstances?

Release, unless,

1. I can buy a new truck with the winnings.

2. It dies unknowingly in the fight

Either Way I will consume 100% of it myself. Really not bad if youve had it overseas!

Lets try not to turn this one into a shit storm

I would personally release any non tournament marlin but not for some of the reasons others may think. First of I think they taste fine. We killed the first marlin we caught in 1982 and it was good. But that was the last marlin I ever intentionally killed. I have no reason to belittle someone else that harvests a marlin or sailfish for the table so long as its a legal fish and their plan is to eat it. Someone on this site once said what makes a marlin more majestic or important then a bluefin or bigeye or any tuna or gamefish. I agree with them. The biggest reason I would not kill a marlin is because I think they are awesome creatures. They are one of the most beautiful animals I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in the wild and I consider it a priviledge to catch one. That being said if I ever had to kill one in a tournament I would make sure that (if rules allowed it) I would be able to eat it or if it were a big blue I would be able to donate it to a food program.

I do think they are the most beautiful fish swimming in the ocean and I'll release em all day long. That being said, I'll kill one in a second if there's $$$$$ on the line. But I dont hold it against anyone though if they kill one, it's legal.
