Marlin Braid Dacron vs Jerry Brown

I usually spool my offshore reels with 80lb Jerry Brown Dacron and top them off with 80lb mono top shots, but after comparing JB with the prices of the Melton Marlin Braid Dacron, I am thinking about switching over. Has anyone used the Melton Marlin Dacron? Any comparisons between the JB would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know the diameter of the 80lb Marlin Dacron, is it thicker or the same?? What is everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance guys.

I perfer hollow core products when adding a top shot, the transition is so much cleaner.

The price of hollow core in the market varies based on quality of weave, product material and over all performance.

All my 80's are loaded with the Melton Hollow core because I need IGFA tackle for the world records that swim here.

So if you want quality hollow core spectra at the best possible $$ per solultion, we are you're best bet.

That hollow core should be $148.00, not sure why it was almost $60.00 less, just make sure it's in good shape...Wouldn't hurt to do a break test.

JB stuff is really good, it just costs more. 80 is more expensive because of the thread count and nobody has a better handle on splicing than JB.

Like I said on my last line that freaked out Capt. Josh, roll the dice and move your mice. When you find product with a price that is too good to be true, it usually is, but sometimes you can also get great deals (on occasion), but I get to see the other side of the coin when guys come walking through the door trying to salvage or replace unbelievable deals...Like an 80 Accurate a guy bought for 25% off, turns out it had been sitting on the shelf for over 4.5 years and needed alot of upgrades to make it current, it was older technology, but he wasn't told that.

Basil charges $.14/yard (for 130lb JB) plus $20/reel for spooling and finishes it with an end-loop and will add your topshot for nothing. He does it with a smile and will chat about fishing the whole time. For me, that can't be beat.

130 is cheaper than 80 becasue of the weave with JB Hollowcore...Alot of people don't recognize this fact...Which makes for some interesting conversations at the register...Sorry I didn't see that 80 was being loaded with 130 which totally explains the price difference or it was @ Basils (reputable operation)

Anyway sounds like your getting a fair retail deal ($84.00 for 600 yards) @ .14 per foot, we don't charge for spooling when you buy line from us, but some shops charge for that...Probably won't cover airfair to Hawaii though.

It's worth it to have a pro like Basil do the winding because I have seen many reels come through the door from the mainland that got free spectra spooled on them, except that it was soft as a marshmellow and needed to be redone.

We've sold a lot of Basils windons over the years, very good quality product.

Nice to see someone appreciate their local tackle store, we make a big effort in Kona, HI to share info and even get some of the local captains in store to share info as well.

When it comes to spectra stick with the quality stuff!
