March 22nd Report - Bite Me Hatteras

It felt really good to get back on the water fishing, only took a few moments on the boat to totally kick the winter blahs and the bout of cabin fever!

Great day today for the Outer Banks Angler Television crew on board the Bite Me.

Rob told me he wanted to film a Bluefin Show, and I think we got a good one in the can.

They were thick, 100-150 pound range and they were cooperative.

We killed one that weight 140 and let several others go, too quickly I ran out of willing anglers. Christinia said she would reel in one more, and the crew said they had more than enough footage, So after Christinia's fish we went home, I feel like we could have caught many more, as they were biting pretty good.

Russel got footage on six different bluefins in the water, including filming the underwater gaff shot on the one we killed. I saw some of the initial footage and it looks good.

Can't wait to see the final product, I will link the you tube trailer version when it gets done.

The show will air locally on Charter Communications Channel 12 and Nationaly on the Sportsman Channel this winter.

Jay how far up the beach are you guys catching the Bluefins. Just wondering if it's worth the run from MHC.

    Capt Jay

These are the size we see in the summer up off the mid-Atlantic coast. I was wondering how you are trolling these fish?. We catch them on dead baits naked with 1 oz chin weights or (Mostly with medium-large Ballyhoo) behind Ilander-Sea Witches, fishing the wwwwwwwback technique or on #32 planners fished deep. We also slow troll them under 5 knots 100% of the time. Are you using a different techinque that is working down your way that we might try up north in July and August. Specifically I was wondering if you are getting any bites on short baits un much closer to the boat than how we fish them up north and trolling faster than we do.
Thank you and congradulations on a great day BFT fishing.

Pretty work Jay- be sure to post the video when/if you can! Those are the same cookie cutter size fish that we get up here in the summer- when you guys are done with them, tell 'em to head on up here....and that we miss 'em
