Man, I do love this time of year.

I'll tell ya, this fishing is superb! Friday I had one man- 20 bluefin, not bad. Over the weekend we fished fluke and sea bass with mixed results. Keeper fluke were hard to come by but we did catch a load of near keepers in 68 feet of water. Go figure. Anyway, today, Steve Fannon and his son Sean and friends climbed aboard at the ungodly hour of 6:00 A.M .(The boys could not believe that they were actually up ) We ran off beyond the wreck and started to troll. We had been in the water for 10 minutes when 3 BFT climbed all over the lures. None of these guys had ever caught a tuna and on the light tackle I had out, they really enjoyed it. A short time later- POW!!! another BFT. We missed a few more, caught 5 or 6 more, broke a few off, and had maybe a dozen hits and I started home trolling toward the wreck. I was watching the thermocline on my digital sounder and could see an occasional BFT at 25 feet. The thermocliune was at 37 feet. I was telling a guy that sometimes we could see the fish on top pushing water, looked up and there was a school maybe 150 yds square just off the bow. A quick turn and all he-- broke loose as they ate everything in the water. As we fought the fish I happened to look down and there were literally hundreds of tuna swimming under the boat just above the thermocline. We could see them below the fish on the line- Un believable! We caught and released 5 or 6 then re-rigged the ones that were destroyed and moved on. Wait! There they were again up and pushing water! Yours truly, being a glutton for punishment made a turn and... you guessed it, it happened all over again. Again we could see the fish leisurely swimming under the boat as we fought and released their buddies. I then quit! We probably had 30 chances and caught somewhere around 20 fish keeping 2 of the larger ones for the table. A great day was had by all. Now bring on those big-uns! I do have 2 days open in July if you want to come out and play with the bluefins.
