Man in the Blue Suit - 7/18 - 150 fathoms south of the Baltimore

I had the pleasure of fishing on the Islander, a 34' Buddy Davis rocketship homeported in Avalon, NJ on Friday, July 18.

After having a blue one crash a Boone bird first thing in the morning and miss the hook by ten feet, we trolled north out of the Poormans, which was filled with pilot whales and no bait, towards the Baltimore, zig zagging along the edge of the continental shelf.

At 2:45, the man in the blue suit completely aired out on the left flat line, somehow attacking the bowling pins in the process, and then dumped 3/4 of a TLD 50 LRS, putting on one helluva show greyhounding all across the 80 degree blue water. We also watched his consort, a much larger blue marlin, free jump as her mate struggled against 18 pounds of drag.

We taped the fish out at 84" (lower fork to tail) and guessed it to be about 200 pounds.

We went swimming quickly to celebrate our blue marlin release and came home to Avalon at 29 knots on the tops of the whitecaps driven by 15 knots of ugly southwest wind.

Who wants to get creeked in 58 degree water when you can swim in 80?

Congrats on the release. If any fish knows how to put on a show it's definitely a Blue Marlin.

Gotta love when they come in a close and try and kill everything you're pulling.

That must have been a sight to see ... Do you know if she stayed the whole time?
