Making Daisy Chains?
Question for the Melton boys please.
Bought some Marlin Magic AP Rocket Med Jet heads from y'all and was gonna rig Yummie Birds in front on them similarly to the daisy chains seen in your catalogue here:

My question is how far in front of the Jet head should you rig the bird so that the Jet doesn't pull it under water but it is close enough to give the desired "bait fleeing from predator" appearance?
Thx much, great experience with placing orders with you guys so far.

AP Bird Chain
John,
How are you? Well first of all, we normally use at least a 15-18ft leader when rigging any sort of Daisy chain. Your AP will obviously go on the end of your leader with the yummie bird around 8ft ahead of your lure. This will allow for the lure to still run naturally while not dragging down your teaser bird! I hope this is helpful.

thx for the prompt reply. will do.
Do you rig it in-line (on the main leader to the Jet Head) or crimp on a short branch the creates a "Y" to the bird at that 8' point? In my case I'm rigging Yummee birds (http://www.meltontackle.com/products...ly-n-fish.html) not the Marlin Magic ones that would obviously work rigged in-line. Basically I'm making a "Custom Flying Fish Chain" like in your print catalog but your online catalog does not have this particular one for me to link for clarity.
If I rigged it in-line I would put a rigging bead and a light crimp on the line to act as a stopper for the teaser, but my concern with in-line is the angle that the leader would be exiting the bait might affect the teasers "angle of attack" and hurt performance. Near as I can tell its rigged in-line from the print catalog but I just want to be sure before I start wasting expensive Fluoro leader to find out.
Thx for all the help. Rigging your own helps pass the time till the next trip south.
Best to all at Melton, tell Hunter to keep the photo thread going! It Feeds mah need till its time for the deed.

Sorry for the late response. Yeah, we normally rig it in-line with the lure itself, approximately 8ft ahead of the lure. And yes, simply slide a crimp down the main line and then put a bead as a stopper so the yummie fish will stay in place.
You can also use the other method of branching out from your main line and creating a "Y" this allows the bird to stay on the surface more, while the lure drops down below it. But the in-line method is equally as effective. Are you using only one teaser bird or multiples?

Just one on the AP rockets. I use multiple Moldcraft soft birds for chains of little skippers. Josh Temple has a post raving about chains of birds for teasers but with no "stingers" attached:
Z-Man To The Rescue Once Again!!!!
but the spreader bars in the thread look like a tangle waiting to happen. My 2 cents (not backed by anything at all).
