Lures or dead bait? your thoughts and ideas?

G'day from NQ Australia, in this tropical part of Aus. when fishing for billfish we nearly always use dead and sometimes live baits. But rarely lures. From what i have read you guys prefer lures. What are your reasons? and those that use both, what are your thoughts?
We mostly encounter Black Marlin ,juvenile and giant as well as Sailfish. Rarely do we see Blues. Certainly there are no Whites or Stripes this far north as the water is too warm. All suggestions will be listened to esp as i would like to do more lure fishing up here and need more ideas?

We call them Fu Fu (lure) pullers "yanks" down our way too
