I don't fish lures much

However I have had luck turning out some lures down at my shop, I work with resins and the like all day. The comany do it molds had some material that you could use to make a mold of a favorite head. When you go to finsih them and polish them here is a tip that might help use toothpaste and newspaper both have a mild abrasive that helped me shine up my lures. Here is another tip when you are ready to mold a lure fill the mold with water and then measure the water and then you know how much resin to use. One problem I had was putting to much hardener in and the resulting cracks from the lure setting up to fast

Concentrate on getting competent at offshore fishing first... Find out what artificials work best for you and those you fish with... Understand why they work then, work on your lure making.. your ability to duplicate the reasons why proven lures work in your lure creations. This especially helps you when you are developing your own designs. If you have seen a lot of commercial lures working and catching fish you'll have an idea of how the different shapes, sizes and weight work in the water and how best to use these factors in your designs.

Tip: Pay close attention to how your leader hole is centered. Leader hole alignment is very important if you're trying to make a lure that swims true. Pay lots of attention to how your lure is going to be skirted. What skirts will you be using, glued or tied. Try and shape your tail pieces to get the smoothest possible transition between head and skirt.

edit: you mention making teasers... well for the big teasers metalflake vinyl upholstery material.. trade name naugahyde zodiac is really excellent skirting material - hard wearing and attractive to fisherman and fish. Blue marlin love the metallic blue colour!

I recommend you get Jim Rizzuto's Fish Hawaii Style Vol No1, there is plenty of tips in there on making lures, as well as lots of other interesting stuff. You can get them direct from Jim at http://www.fishinghawaiioffshore.com/ vol's 2 & 3 are also excellent.
This guy writes some interesting Blue Water books, his Kona Chronicles make a great bed time read, you can dream about fishing all night.
