Personally I am not going to give away but so much. Keep asking and I might give you some additional tips.
Polyester is probably the worst material, I dont like it because it can be very fragile.
Dont buy stuff from Ben Franklin, Michael's or other crat stores - not designed to hold up in the water or on the boat.
Molf material is available from a million different people. Molds should be flexible to an extent but very durable. Several mold materials will react negatively with either release agents or resins them selves.
Air bubble will happen at first, some resins you will never get rid of air bubbles with out expensive equipment.
I agree with I believe Patudo, center hole is extremely important - unless your design calls for offset.
Weight balance is important, offset it will act like a turd on a coat hanger, done right it will have a cycle that drives fish crazy.
Determine skirt style and length in advance, plan the neck accordingly.
You will more then likely jack up enough mold material and resin to build a house. Is not simple or easy TO DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Patience, patience, patience.
Hope I helped some, I will see what else I can pass along.
Silmar 41 is the resin I pour my econo models with. Easy to work with, doesn't set too fast... I use polytek for the molds when I'm not cutting big multi cavity ones from aircraft grade aluminum...
thanks for the assistance guys i just enjoy making my own stuff. i have never really even fisjhed flies tied by someone else. the satisafaction i derive is awesome. thanks again for the tips.....
GREAT READ!!! Another "pill Bottle molder" here. I've been doing it for a few years now & like making my own toys. Nothin fancy but, I've had compliments & have caught fish on them. Few years ago, 1 of my chuggers caught an est 250lb Blue out at the Baltimore. TOTALLY MADE MY DAY!
I made a promise to WAHOONBOX a while ago, GUESS I BETTER GET OFF MY ARSE!
