First time headed anywhere like this. Fishing sails and really looking forward to it.

Anyway, anybody got any tips or advice for a first timer in Costa Rica?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    • Nobody actually catches fish from the hookup but it's a good place to try.
    • In between fishing runs do a zip line tour.
    • Bring your catch to a local restaurant and have them fire it up.
    • Make a golf cart reservation and try not to run over too many of the crabs crossing the street.
    • Line up your boat and captain if you haven't already.
    • Visit the Marriott for at least one drink and drop a few bucks on 33 at the roulette table.
    • Place yourself on the back port corner and get ready to drop it back.
    • Reel like hell and if your a tuna fisherman change your style from an elbow crank to a wrist crank.
    • And beware the Penguin!

Thums, thats a negative. When this forum came online I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a boat named "Wound Up". Never happened and I'm Airslot on most other forums.

Sterling, thanks...that info is priceless. I've been out of the offshore seen for the past two years, but I used to have pretty good touch with the whites, so I hope that helps me.

Were actually there for 5 days and a zipline tour is on the schedule.

Thanks for the sage advice. I'll troll through the hook-up, and if 33 hits I'll split with ya

Forgot to add, boat is lined up,35Bert called the Sailfish...

First off I just want to say that Costa Rica is wonderful country to visit. The locals are friendly and helpful as long as you show them respect in return. Most of them speak some English and in the major towns IE Jaco (near Los Suenos) they speak pretty good English. Pretty everywhere except the American dollar but check for the exchange rate sometimes you can make a couple extra dollar as different places sometimes have a little bit different of a rate.
If your into seeing sunsets make sure you take a night and go up to "Villa Calletes" for a few cocktails and watch the sunset from their Amphitheater. It is one of the bets views in Costa Rica. I could go on and on but I don't know what kind of stuff your into. If you have any more specific question let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.

    advice
    1. spend the 70 bucks and take a trip out of jaco to the nicoya penisula, travel the coast.

    2. Catch a rooster fish. you will regret it if you dont.

    3. be nice. dont make a scene. keep a 20 in your passport.

    4. make friends...i befriended the chief of police in picqurea...we still email.
(wound up seeing him at the ferry..moved me to the front of the line.)

tell us how it goes when you get back.

    Los Suenos for Less

    WoundUp:

Welcome to Costa Rica. You are arriving at the start of Peak fishing season for Sailfish! You should have great days on the water here. There are still some nice Marlin around and being caught by our boats as well. Giant Mahi-Mahi's are everywhere right now and are averaging 30-45lbs,as well as Football to medium sized yellowfin Tuna.

Who did you book your trip with and what boat are you fishing on? For future reference, you would pay between $50-$100 less per day for any charter boat out of Los Suenos if you book it through us. You name the boat, and we get it for less. We are the leaders here in Los Suenos Fishing & Travel to this area. We also offer great rates on a wide variety of Accomodations as well.

While you are here, I suggest you expereince the Zip-Line canopy tour and /Or the 3Hr ATV tour. These are "Must Do" tours here and you will see a part of Costa Rica otherwise missed. I would be glad to make your tour reservations for you and get you discounts unavailble to the general public.

Please feel free to stop in The Beatle Bar in Jaco, and ask for Josh. I own the Concierge' and Tour Desk there as well, and would be glad to guide you to the best of everything here in the Los Suenos - Jaco region.
