I run em loose enough to where they aren't stressing the wire but tight enough that they don't want to spring open. I use about six or seven haywires and three or four barrels. Don't need that many barrels but it is a touch neeter and helps with that all important clean break...

All good stuff. In the final analysis, one twist or wrap either way probably makes no difference. A good haywire is an incredibly good connection.

looser is better, the tighter the twist the hotter it gets. That weakens the wire. All you need is one or two tight wraps at the end, more than that, again causes heat. Even if you twist a poor haywire, the chances of losing a fish are slim. The haywire just pulls tight on itself. I think eight wire is the easiest to practice with.

I like my first wraps to be very tight...ive always twisted it a few times then do the barrel wraps. Never had a failure.
