    Question Loop-Loop Connections Question.

how do you compensate for line twist or a spinning bait when using a loop to loop windon connection, does this happen often?

It definately happens to everyone using a loop to loop connection. Either your bait starts to spin or you shag some trash or grass and the bait will spin. The only way to take care of this problem is to use a very small swivel that will help take care of the twist. The small Spro Power Swivels work the best in my opinion. I like them better than the in line wind on swivels. They are small enough to pass through your guides without any problem.

    Joe,

Does this mean you would prefer to use a spro/swivel to connect your main line to your windon in lieu of a loop to loop ?

we use a small spro power swivel from the main line to a long leader direct to the hook for trolling and chunking. no loop to loop but no twist either

It really depends on the size of the mono main line, but the swivel will do away with most of the twist. I usually use a loop to loop connection for the topshot and a small swivel from my topshot to the leader.

    Talking WIND ON

I DON'T LIKE LOOP TO LOOP JUST FOR THAT REASON.........
I USE SPRO SWIVELS TROLLING AND GIGGING.....KINDA HAVEN'T CHUNKED IN YEARS BUT HONESTLY NEVER USED A WIND ON CHUNKING TO SAY THE TRUTH........DUDE YOU CAN USE A SPRO ON SOME PRETTY BIG LEADER MATERIAL....

AS FAR AS WIND ONS - WHY NOT JUST MAKE YOUR OWN AND ALWAYS USE SPRO'S..........I GUARANTEE THAT WILL BE AN ECONOMIC STIMULOUS PACKAGE IN ITSELF........WIND ONS FROM THE FACTORY ARE EXTREMELY OVERPRICED AND NOT WORTH THE HASTLE I THINK.

    BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION...

I never trust the wind-ons from the factory. That's why I have been making my own for Capt. Joe Shute's Bait & Tackle for the last 12 years. I have had many factory wind-ons fail and they all have very small loops to join one loop to another. I make my loops large enough to pass a 5 lb. spool of line thru. As far as I know I have never had a failure on a loop to loop that I personally made! Knock On wood! I have had plenty of bluefins for practice. But I also use the Spro Power Swivels for connecting the wind-ons to the flourocarbon leaders. I believe the Spro Heavy Swivels are the best on the market. Lots better than their wind-on swivels.

i agree with most, i cant see using a wind on with loop to loop for trolling or chunking without a swivel to the leader.

i can see using it for tuna jigging however as i dont think line twist is much of an issue.
