Looking for advice on keeping my props clean
Has anyone used any of the new products available to keep the props and shafts clean. I had some pretty bad sharkskin on my wheels last season. Thanks for your input.

Heard that PropSpeed is the best product out there. I have not used it yet, but those who have love it. I'm sure there are some guys on here that have used it. www.propspeedusa.com

its simple,
just put a coat of paste wax on and let it dry. it will still be there in the fall and nothing grows on it.you dont have to put it on any thicker than if you were waxing them. seems stupid, but it works. ps. dont rub it off.

PropSpeed is the greatest when properly applied, works for us guys that can only run 2 days a week. I do like the idea of running the boat more

PropSpeed has become a very popular product....
It's a little bit softer than MussleBuster which is cooked on your props in an oven....slightly more expensive but will last two years to the propspeeds one.. A NOTE... Make sure your props are conditioned how you want them or there's a chance you may have to reapply if you get any propeller work done... |

PropSpeed - I'm A Believer!
Below is a follow up thread I posted last July on another forum........
Well, I am officially convinced that PropSpeed antifouling for metal works! We applied it to our shafts in the spring of 2005. We had no barnacle growth on the shafts all season – but I didn’t notice much on any of the other running gear either so I figured it was a mild year for barnacles. Note - We have not hauled the boat since last spring and have not reapplied the PropSpeed. Well this year on the Chesapeake Bay is a totally different story. Over the July 4th weekend we ran the boat for the first time after having changed wheels, having 3 new turbos installed and after having sat idle in the slip for three weeks. What a mess – lost 400 rpms of top end, could hardly get on plane and lots of black smoke and vibration. It was late in the day and I did not have a chance to dive to take a look at the bottom until the following day. When I did, I was appalled but not surprised at what I found. The props, struts and rudders were covered with small barnacles – it looked like Berber carpet! This was after only 3 weeks after installing new wheels and making sure everything was clean. The interesting part was that the shafts had NO barnacle growth!! The Prop Speed that I applied over 14 months prior was working perfectly. I consulted with neighbors on the dock and they are all experiencing similar performance/barnacle probelms. Even though the PropSpeed is very pricey, a little difficult to work with, and once it is on you can’t touch it or will be forced to re-apply, it WORKS! After seeing this I am planning on adding PropSpeed to our struts and rudders at next haul out (maybe sooner than later). I will still keep the props untreated (fisherman’s superstition and ease of changing wheels). I am confident that this stuff is doing the job. -------------- I checked out the Mussel Buster product while at the Palm Beach Boat Show. Interesting product/process but not good for anything that you can't take off the boat and put in the baking unit! |

The product spec sheet says its intended for non-ferrous metals, did any of you use the propspeed on stainless shafts?

It will stick to anything with an 80 grit sanded finish with proper prep, Yes it works great on stainless shafts, nibral props stainless trim tabs bronze struts and rudders and works on aluminum outdrives if you have the heart to sand off the factory paint. I have been told it will even work on fiberglaass damn if I could afford to do the whole boat but I bet it would be as efficient as it gets
