    Not sure anymore
heard about some big red groupers mixed in with the catches as well. The groupers were floating around and the boats were free gaffing them. Looks like the long liners had caught there quota and dumped them over. Nice dinner for the fleet. My buddy said you could see the slick and they would go through and some would be torn up by sharks and others were intact just swimming around with bulged eyes and swim bladders in their throats. He said they free gaffed five up to 70lbs. Thats alot of good meat. Damn I wish I had gone.

Heard the same thing.. But didn't talk with anyone . I just saw it on the Teachs Lair report.. They said they got caught up in some cold water! Sure would be a good find!!

I don't believe there is a long line bottom fishery in NC. Cold water getting them is a possibility. Curious as to why they'd float though?
Any more info on this event will be greatly appreciated.

Could be one of those times like it happen in CR when the red pargos bust up on the baits. I have never seen it but when we caught a few trolling in Domincal the captain told us stories of the seas turning red with pargos busting on bait. doesn't happen often though
