LEGASEA 9/18 -- can you say WAHOO???
Had a VERY inexperienced crew with me on sunday, my sister and brother-in-law, both of whom have never been offshore before. Headed to the washington lumps and there were weeds everywhere, and a well defined weedline. Thanks David. We were working the weedline for id say about 10 seeconds before we got mauled by dolphin. Picked on the dolphin for a while until my starboard engine shut down. Worked on the engine for about 2 or 2 1/2 hrs before talkin to dave on the radio and he said to bang the starter. It was just a selinoid issue and i was back up and running. Worked the line a little longer and had the right short explode. This is no dolphin. My brother-in-law tom fought the fish for about 10 min with a few nice runs and im still thinking tuna. Finally get some color and its my wahoo!!!! i have been talkin about this fish for a month now and there he was, 20ft down waiting for the steel. I get the leader in hand and the fish starts to dart under the boat. . . I say no way and sink the gaff in the only visible part of the fish, the last quarter of him. . . lol. I didnt care, i knew it was a scary hookset with the hook in the corner of the mouth and i just wanted him in the boat. . . SO, we came home with a 40lb WAHOONBOX~! Tried for another hour or so to find the tuna and get the slam, but he wasnt to be had on the troll. Seems like 90% of the fleet was chunking.
Had a good day considering dealing with all that engine crap. a few pics to come. btw, we couldnt keep the dolphin off the rainbow adrenaline lures bar. tore em up! |

Who you callin inexperienced??? OK, I'll admit it Johnny, Tom and I are inexperienced but made your day with that Yahoo fish, opps, I mean Wahoo (
). We had a great time with you and I know that your Grandfather would be as proud or you (if not more) than I am!! I did a little braggin myself today, showing off my first offshore catch (a dolphin, yet I am not quite sure why you were calling it a chicken). Can't wait to go out again, you may have created a couple of monsters! Love You, Sis!! |
