    to not get misunderstood:
to work on a boat/any work on the island a foreigner need his residency papers done(only as a legal resident you are allowed to spend more than the 30 days vistor visa time on the isle, only a resident is allowed to work).
the same t own a dominican company.
a short while ago you could own a dominican company even as a non resident, but you needed dominican partners to do so.
our comp[any set-up is actually on the change, existing companies will be transformed in new variations til june 19th 2009, laws change for the newly constitution of a company, i still try to figure out all differences, at least i know what i have to do with my own company to transform it into the fitting new company form, laws can sometimes be a mess, ha ha.
so yes, if a foreign boat owner does all the paperwork to receive the permission to commercially charter his boat he need to use captain and mates who are locals or registered residents.

Insurance companies are very strict when it comes to paying claims...some are easy to work with and then some our not - depending on the situation, amount and past loss history...I can not stress the importancy of telling your agent the minute something happens...that its what we are here for. And its important to know exactly what kind of policy you are getting yourself in to.

It was a pleasure working with you too Wasabi......
dishonest...and illegal in any form is a common word in most policy exclusion......to be honest - no matter what you are covered for if you are found to have been at fault legally...... that exclusion right there pretty much answers any scenerio you could come up with........best to know what you should and shouldnt be doing in any country you go to.
