    Lee clamp on rod holders

I will be finishing up the new TTop in the next month and im thinking of the rod holders. The old top is Alu. and the new top is S.S.,so weight is a issue. If I make the rocket launchers the same as they are know I will have to add more tube to the top or I can go with a couple of S.S. clamp on holders from Lee and save some wieght and time. Has anyone used them in the past and do you think they will hold up to a 80 wide tiagra in 4'seas doing 18 knots. Or do you think they will rotates down and send my outfit over board or are they rock solid?? When Im done I will post some pics of my handy work. When I got a quote for 5000.00 and up for a custom top I had to try it my self, what the hell its only pipe and they let me weld that in Nuke Plants so a Top should be a peice of cake. I hope to have it ready for Hatteras by March and I cant wait 6 months so far with a broken boat is taking its toll on my. Anyway tell me what you think of the clamp ones.

    Thanks again Dave

My last boat had four of these across the back rail. I never had a problem with them letting loose but I ran lighter gear on that boat. For the most part they were solid but they did move slightly over time. I would worry a bit about an 80 up there in slamming seas and my guess is that you'll need to tighten and adjust them regularly.

I realize you probably don't want to start drilling holes in your new TTop but it would seem like you could drill a hole (through the clamp of the holder and into the steel) and put in a set screw in each to ensure they stay in the right place.

I think u r asking a lot for any top to support 80Ws running on a small boat. too much movement up that high.
