    Red face leader twist

hello sportfisherman.com i watched an episode of saltwater experience last week and when i saw the captain hauling a swordfish off the bottom in 2000 ft of water i decided to try it,while i have caught swordfish in the past never at that depth. i've tried it a few times since but i can't seem to stop the leader from wrapping around the mainline,no matter how slowly i let it down, keep in mind it's 2000 feet and i don't have all day to set this rig out,any help from my fellow ocean maniac's will b greatly appreciated
    until next time...........tight lines

Take a brick and make a loop out of 8-10lb test loop it through the brick and loop it around your hook. when you get to the depth you want just pop the rod once or twice and the brick will break off. If your weight is heavier than the brick this wont work....Mark

If I got this right. You should have a break away weight tied to your swivel as normal. Then you tie a brick onto your hook with 8#. But if your break away weight is heavier than your brick or your break away system is weaker than your 8# it won't work. Is that right ?

The line attaching the brick to the hook should be much lighter than the break away weight at the swivel and the brick should be heavier than the breakaway weight. This keeps your weight on the swivel from passing bait on the way down. Once at depth the brick will break off pretty easy leaving the weight on the swivel attached.
