Late report - 7/7 near the Washington

Headed to the Washington on the Nimrod for a light day of trolling. Beautiful weather but a slow day fishing for us. Water was okay and a bit of life around including a bunch of hammerheads and porpoise. Saw a white one airing out behind another boat, watched a big Viking boat do battle with something (bigeye??) on stand-up from about 1000 until 1600 when we packed up, and we ended up with a small yellowfin and decent mahi for. Missed 2 other sizable strikes behind a spreader bar that never came tight.

The mahi was a fun one: Fish popped the rubberband on the right flat but missed. It then went for the Ilander teaser and stayed at it until it latched on to the hoo-daddy at the end and would not let go. I swear I thought it had swallowed it and we were going to catch it with the teaser! I figured I would try free gaffing it as the teaser was pulled up but then I came to my senses and pitched a dink w/a circle and hooked up.

Yes - a pair of hammerheads. We saw quick a few that day including one that looked like it would go close to 500#.
