late report 6-27 from s.poormans/rockpile area w/ pics

left dock around 430 and lines in by 730 in the deep of the poormans trolled in the deep, all through canyon up on the flats then trolled inshore by the rock pile in about 40 fathoms where we found lots of life whales dolphins birds rips and within 10 mins of trolling in the area we get a knock down and boat a 35 40 lb class yellowfin got lines back out and start to make our way back to the knockdown and within 5 mins i noticed a fin up behind my right outside rigger i started to scream thinking it was a huge white on a purple and black black bart. the fish missed the plug first shot and came back at it again this time getting the steel still believing we had a large white terry grabbed the rod and setup on him when it jumped 6 to 7 ft outta the water and into the air and we knew it wasnt a white but a mako. after about a 20 minute battle I sunk the poon into her and than fly gaffed and tail roped her. mako measured out at 72 inches and we are thinkn about 135 lbs. trolled around while without a touch suprise suprise got to be about 3 so we packed it in and headed for the barn.
