late report, have been busy getting back in the swing of things, ran out friday morning before memorial day and instantly got a 39# gaffer on the planer rod as she was going down, another gaffer a few minutes later. picked at them all day long, then at noon the bite got really hot, three to five lines popping out at a time with only the cap and one angler aboard, me clearing teasers and lines, and the boat on autopilot, trying to keep tension on all of the hooked up fish and assist the anglers as well as drop back baits to those short strikers and gaff fish and rig more baits and set the lines back out. it was a very busy day. 22 gaffers boated, 5 just under 40# the rest were mid 20's and a few around the upper teens. saw two sails sleeping on top, had four sailfish bites, a few came unbuttoned during the fight, but a got the release pictures we wanted. last call was a seven fish knockdown with four of the five gaffers boated and we called it a day as we were out of bait, so five dozen ballyoo later we found ourselves headed to the slip with an icey tek four grown men could not even load in the truck to take to the fishhouse.
just wish the carolina classics had a bigger fishbox.
