Good luck Franky!

I would certainly consider anything below 30' a small boat. There are some in the 35' range that could compete with the right crew and reasonable weather.
Remember a few years ago when the freaking tug came through in the middle of all of us trying to get out. Holy Geezus!! Then it's always interesting when a commercial boat steams out in the middle of it all...better watch his riggers and birds cause the comm boat captain sure as heck doesn't seem to pay much attention.![]()
Shhh, don't tell the intrinsic that they weren't supposed to catch the big one with those others they caught over 90 miles from the inlet![]()
I agree it is a luck tourney, that is why I still fish it. When it becomes release only, I'll have to do something else. Given the right tools anyone has a shot, but I will readily admit it is tough for me to fish on a 46 foot moderate speed boat with guys that fish once a year against operations like the Intrinsic, the Wound Up, etc, etc, etc.
As far as small boats go, I used to agree that 35 and under was small, but I will give you a quick story. A few years ago I lost a motor the day before the tourney, so Dad played mechanic and I hopped onto a 65 Viking as 2nd mate. Dad was kind enough to drop me off in the morning and figured he might as well go to the inlet and see the other side of things for once on Monday morning. He told me that evening that he used to feel sorry for the small boats stuck in that inlet mess. That was until he watched from the sidelines and saw a 46 foot Post (like the Last Call) going through the inlet that morning. He said, "We are one of the small boats now..."
Capt. Franky, sure would like to see you & crew in the money! GOOD LUCK!![]()
