Been a while since I posted a report. In short, fishing has improved--the rats have arrived. However, June was a month to be forgotten. The first of the month, we were in slip, rebuilding the starboard engine. On the 1st day of fishing the rebuild, the port side went. We nursed it for a week, until the mechanic could schedule us into his week. 5 days later, we're fishing again. Total of eleven days at the dock rebuilding engines (and lots of the boss' money). We caught a total of 1 spearfish & 1 striped marlin in June. Not our month.
July has been quite different. The fish have arrived, including quite a few larger beasts. Among the numerous releases of large fish (500-999 lbs), there have been a 698, 913, 903 and a few others put on the scale. The tournaments begin in July. We made a poor showing, going 0 for 6 in 10 days of the first 5 tournaments. We did redeem ourselves going 2 for 4 & placing 3rd in the Kona Rock & Reel (& won some $$ too).
So, the blues have arrived as well as some nice catches of Ahi, although they are not in full-swing summer numbers yet. Yesterday, we watched them put on a feeding show that Sea World would have been proud of. 80-150 lbs tunas skying on bait, only to sound as we approached. We will be getting the stick rig re-tuned this week![]()
Wrap up--sorry there's not as much detail, but its been nearly 2 months since I posted a report. The fish are here. We are getting blue marlin bites EVERYDAY---15 bites in the last 7 days, catching 6. So if you ever thought about it, make it happen. Kona is biting.
The pictures are a nice blue we caught & released on May 25. est. 600+ lbs.
Go catch 'em up.
