I want to know the best way to join 80 floro to 50 mono for my jigging outfit. I was thinking of putting about 12 foot of 80 floro and tying a blood knot to the main line of 50 mono. Thanks guys.
Blood will work... Goes through guides well. I use it for my top shot on my heavy shotgun rig too.
For leaders I sometimes switch up and use a double uni myself with three wraps in the 50 and two with 80. I feel stronger knot but doesn't go through smaller roler guides as well... Ok for open ceramic guides though...
Short leader... Double uni to connect there and single uni to the jig with like four or more wraps to keep the knot open so jig flutters more freely...
I got 50 mono blood knot 80 floro about 12 ft. to a san diego jam knot on the jig. I like that knot because as you stressed it allows free movement of jig.
What youre describing works just fine. I often run with the short because it frequently gets crowded in my pit and I like to "Flip" the jig to a place it wont get involved with the "set" or "working" baits. Short leader allows me to "cast".
I too prefer the uni to uni. Blood broke light on me a couple times, probably tie'r error. Seaguar knot works when you want something fast.
Like my jig to have a welded ring and a polamar.

Jigging 101
Aloha
I don't like flouro for jigging I like to use 100 test Jinkai
Jinkai is a smaller diameter than most other lines, and gets the bites!
When jigging while chunking I don't cast. I drop it down right off the bow and thumb the spool every 20 feet and yoyo it, then let it drop more yoyo again
By yo yo I mean raise the rod tip and lower it ,,,but lower it at the same rate the jig is sinking so the line is allways tight to the reel..
Once you find the depth of the fish you can simply drop to just below the depth ,,lock up the reel and wind at a moderately fast rate for 20 cranks, if no bite then drop it back down a little lower than before and crank 20 again
At night we use 400 feet of 600 test crimped to the jig. The hook is a 4x strong silver color short shank. The hook is attached to the jig via a 1.5 inch wire snood. This gives the best hookup, usually the hook lodges in the corner of the jaw. the best way to pull um up is to tell a newbe it's really fun and get them to do it. This handline fishing not sportfishing, but it's fun
Remember...The deeper you jig the bigger you can go with the leader once yer past 90 feet deep
Keep a jig on a single strand leader ready. If yer jigging and yer jig suddenly disapperes, that usually means a wahoo or king just took it on the drop. Spike the rod and drop the single strand outfit right away. Good chance you'll get his buddy if yer fast enough
Leaders;;;Surface fish get a short leader 2 feet max. The bite is usually on the retrieve or as soon as it hits the water if yer casting to a bait ball. The down side to the short leader is it will somtimes break in the middle
Deep jigging leader should be about three feet to six feet. The longer leader is for shock absorber. 3 feet will get 'er done but if ya gotta spike the rod and gaff yer own ya need a longer length to protect from boat chaffe

I do not tie a jig with a loop knot for extra action. The jig has allot of action built into the shape allready. I want a solid connection. if ya want more action,,,use a jig with a different shape or varry yer retrieve rate
Leaders over 200 get crimped
i forgot the knot names, I think they mentioned it up there
