I'm going down to Palm Beach this week. Can you rent a Kite Rod set up, do you know where?

You could always bring your favorite broken rod and reel in your carry-on.........just a suggestion, as it is very easy to travel with.

Kites are a pain in the ass. Put a bait in each rigger and one deep. Keep em behind the boat. 3 baits keeps it simple and you will get plenty of bites.

Why fish 3 baits when you can fish 6?

Usually the more baits you fish, (if you can handle it properly) the more bites/hook ups you will get... and multiples...

the use of kites is, arguably, the best presentation of baits for sailfish fishing in south florida.

I do not doubt that but for a guy new to the game without experienced help it can be tough. I spent 3 winters down there and fished every day. I caught lots of sails with and without kites. For a guy new to S Florida live baiting, he is better off skipping the kite.

That is great if he is fishing with 4 or 5 experienced guys.

The other problem is losing 6 baits worth 50 bucks at once when the cuda's and kings show up. Better to fish 3 and get the hang of it.

PS: If you get torn up by kings or cudas, move a little deeper.

i will tell you one thing teddy..

i fished down there a lot in the past years and i am not 100 percent with kites but i got them pretty good after an hour..

i am sure you can get it in the air.. the only thing that gets me going crazy is those darn helium balloons they fill up when there is not enough wind!! lol

but even with 3 baits on each kite you would be fine...

when i fished with the l and h with captain john dudas and captain neil orange they only used about 3-4 baits on a kite...

then they would have two rods down deep off of each of the corners of the stern..

and man we caught some serious fish with those boys!!!!!!

also i dont know much about it but when we went down with them over the winter we got into some serious cobia fishing!!! so keep an eye out around the area for the rays on the flats!!
