Funny you mentioned this. We were tarpon fishing today and when the tide slacked the wind picked up and the sharks were all over our baits. I decided to put out the kite and see if I could keep the sharks off. Big mistake!!! They ate those baist faster than the baits on the bottom. These were only small sand bars, 3-4 feet long. It was kind of cool watching them demolish those poor little spots though.

There is a sport fishermen magazine from a couple months ago (possibly a year, I find them randomly around the house) with a lot of different articles. Mainly for makos though, and a nice one on kite fishing for them. Maybe if I get the date and number off of it you could google it????

Found it. August 2006 - Giant redfish cover.

Have not tried it, nor know of anyone that has had success.

Thumbs up Oh Yeah - It Works

Put a livey on a kite

Put a strip on a kite

You may start with one kite but you will purchase more

In the past, I have fished kites for Tuna and Sailfish.....its deadly for Sailfish in the Keys but as I drove to work one day I was thinking about shark fishing. I have only gone twice with limited success but, I started thinking about ways to attract them to boat.

I thought that if you created a really nice slick and then had one or live ones splashing in a panic at the surface in the middle of that slick, you could draw some attention to your baits........just my inexperience thought.

You just basically described on of our king fishing tactics up here. Nice chum slick and livies splashing on top from a kite. We do it on anchor or at drift.
