Had a chance to fish on the boat "Alibi" yesterday for my B-Day. Got the blessing from the captain to bring along a few goodies to give a try. While we make kite rods, I've never fished one nor been on a boat that has, yet had a chance yesterday as this was what I was told we might be doing... I believe we were around the 500 line in 200 fathoms. GREAT conditions when we pulled up around 7AM. HUGE flyers, birds, tunas skyin, simply awesome... now, if we could only catch a couple. Out goes the kite about 100 yds with 3 clips. Blue yummies flyin and droppin, pretty stuff, very cool. 10 minutes into the troll and BAM!!! We all saw a 60# YF sky 4' out of the water and slam a yummy.... didn't come tight. Oh well, 10 seconds later another comes flyin out and, well, just wow! If you haven't seen this or fished this way it's really amazing to see these big fish hit these flying baits... We did this for about 3 hours and picked 2- 60# fish. The party was mixed with a couple of ladies and we found it necessary to ditch trying to catch more of these big ones as just 2 minutes in the chair for one of the ladies fighting a big YF was too much for them. No big deal. We went inside a bit and trolled for dolphin and picked up a dozen or so, then finished the day tile fishing. Ended the day with about 40 total fish. Yellowfin, dolphin, tilefish, BSB, 1- baracuda, ling cod, a seagull and a lot of happy faces and worn out arms... God bless America and thank you Alibi for letting us do what we wanted all day: rigging, gaffing, drinking and laughing.
