Cliff:
Thanks for sharing, cool shots. Do you know where the kings go once they get to the fishmarkets in Hatteras? I've always heard they were shipped to restaurants and stuff in places like Chicago, New York or inland--any idea? Just curious.
Can't speak for Hatteras, but when I used to mackeral fish, most of them went to NY or Canada to be sold as smoked fish. Used in a lot of commercial fish dips, etc.
is the destination for these fish. Where they end up is unnown to me.
Chuck is my son. He spent a lot of time and energy to catch these fish. I expect they will feed well over a thousand people at least for a day.
I hunt on a farm. The farmer says most people believe food comes from Food Lion. No, it comes from the labor and perserverance of people like the farmer and Chuck.
We frequently take folks like the farmer and the fisherman for granted. We owe them a lot. Keep them in your prayers. They are working for you.
When I used to commercial King out of Southport, Dean at Seafood Source shipped those fish to Canada. Canada was his major outlet for Kings.
I can't speak for other area's, but the kings in this area go to either New York or Canada, depending on when they were caught. The truck on Tuesday goes to New York, the truck on Saturday goes to Canada.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. This was just personal curiosity on my part.
Capt. Cliff, please don't think that I meant anything about anti-fishing, I was just interested in where these fish went. Several of my family members are commercial fishermen and I myself work in the marine industry so I certainly do not take the farmer or the fisherman for granted. They are in my thoughts and prayers almost daily.
I just got to thinking about the hard work done by the fishermen and farmers to put food on our tables. Remember when the Lord divided the "loaves and fishes" to feed the multitudes. That is what these professional food gatherers do. They feed the multitudes.
They have been under tremendous pressure to make ends meet, particularly with high fuel prices and regulatory hurdles.
I am sorry that Sarah Palin didn't get in. I doubt the Obama crowd will drill for oil.
Those King's on the dock bring back fond memories!!! God I love fishing!!!Frank
