Killing of marlin and every other fish that is legal to slay

Now let me ask you all that frequent a fishing message board why do some heckle those who kill?

I mean its legal to slay blue marlin and white marlin but yet every once in awhile some guy heckles a fishing report.

If you dont like to see dead fish then why read a fishing message board?

Dont get me wrong I like to see catch and release as well but If its a mans legal right to kill why heckle his report ?

Just tring to understand cause when im reading a good report it really crawls up my ass when some dude says why did ya kill it?

I don't understand why people jump all over a guy for killing 1 marlin to eat but if it was a swordfish they would have congratulated the guy. Last time I checked they were in the same family and up untill a few years ago swordfish stocks were on the verge of a total collapse.

i agree. I hate to see bill fish killed.. But If you are allowed, why give someone else a hard time? Like we need more of that nonsense in our lives..

I got jumped on hard on another site because I killed marlin before and even because we caught 55 mahi the other day. I think that some of these guys that jump on you for killing fish are jealous and wish they were fishing and not at their computer at work reading about your slaughter. If it's legal,then no need to bash the man/woman. Just congratulate or don't and move on.

Great question... If somebody kills one for the table I don't get upset. Hell in Hawaii they market their fish... If on the other hand that fish is tossed in the ass end of a F150 and hauled to the dump and was killed "Just because" it would get under my skin.
In the Atlantic we have a cap on the number that can be taken. If JQ Public went back to the old days way of hanging them for a pic and dumping them that quota would be slammed shut quick, we'd all get a bad rap and tourney season would be over before it started.
If the fish is legal and is taken for food, great. There are better eating fish out there but to each their own... Have I killed marlin? More than I care to admit to. Do I do it still? Only to make a living in a tournament... And if I do kill one there, it will be eaten, every last scrap.

I see small makos killed and see the crap shoveled on the killer. Hey, mako is great eating and IF its legal size. More power to ya.

No the sword fish is not in the same family as billfish. Billfish family consists of the marlins, swords and spears. Ol xiphias gladius is a stand alone species. Different in many ways anatomically to the billfishes... The only similarity is that they both have long noses and feed on roughly the same type diet.

Why would some one want to bash another fisherman for wanting to put some fish on the table!!
When you hook up a bill fish and, can get it to the boat in a short time then try to revive it but, if you have a long hard fight the chances of that fish surviving are slim but, I guess the sharks have to eat to.

When I was in Hawaii I had smoked Marlin, it was great. If you are going to put it on the table, OK. No I won't bash you for killing it and eating it, but don't let me see you chuck it back into the water for the crabs just so you can have your glory! There are so many good eating fish out there why kill it, you had your fun, let the next guy experience it. The long liners take enough of them and feed the sharks. What we do will have an impact on our children and future offshore fisherman and the sport. We don't need to give the Feds any more reasons to tighten the restrictions on this fishery.

Some times it happens when you take all the measures to keep the bill fish alive. Some times the angler wants the trophy. Some times a big ole shark rips out the belly. Always some one pisses on a parade when a great post is made concerning a blue, black, white, or other type of marlin. Go figure 11,500 can be long lined off of cabo and you get a hmmm ! I see your point clearly Admin.

i agree with you 100% admin. but i don't like when a perfectly edible fish gets wasted too. thousands of people are starving everyday..... lets put it to good use.
