OK, let me first say that I didn't watch the video because I have a pretty good idea whats on it and I don't want to lose my lunch.
But you guys are sounding less like a bunch of carnivores than a PETA convention. What is the difference between dolphin meat and pork, venison, tuna or chicken? Is it because they are smart or cute? Where do we draw the line? if the issue is the inhumane way they are slaughtered, I agree 100%. And as far as the japs raping the seas, let he who has not sold a bluefin or bigeye cast the first stone |

Hey Double D, do ya kinda of mean like this?
Hey Deep, hope you don't mind but I borrowed you post. We live in a feakin dream world I tell ya, a freakin dream world. Ya gotta love it. Can you imagine if the little "blood thirsty savages" saw one of our Bambi Killin vids. Oh, I forgot, that's accepatable here. A freakin dream world............. By the way, I'm with ya Deep. Let's go kill some shit. "Deep C I post more than I fish Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: The Plywood State Posts: 4,946 I'm ready already!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rolling tackle box is ready for the fourth trek to the polar ice cap region of the year... My computer may not work up there but Deep deckhand has his unit back working so I can be PM'ed through him... The clock is ticking and Monday will sound my departure from this overheated mosquito laden thunder mecca hell I call home. My hunger grows! Mrs Deeps cooking is delicious and PBJ samwiches are food of the Gods. But, just as the makos of spring need to come inshore for bluefish to fill nutritional needs I need to go offshore and fill my belly on yummy tunas... My forefathers spent the last few million years evolving to the top of the food chain. Its my civic duty to honor that tradition. I want shin deep blood and guts. I need to tranfuse type "T" positive plasma into my system. I want the sun to rise on a pit so dirty it's gonna take coal chissels and C4 to knock the blood off. I need to see blistered thumbs, burnt drags, busted tackle and torn out transoms. I want to test the ability of the boat to plane when I get done packing it with enough meat to fatten a small country. I'm haulin glass but so damn sick of it pointing at the sky I could puke. I want my tips touchin the water. I hear those lazy bastard drags of mine laughing at their easy existance and I wont rest til I roast their asses cherry red! Yes you little tuna bastards, I have been too easy on you for too long. Its time to rock! I'll squeeze your little tuna heads to make my tuna wine. I'll stack your sushi high and proud... I couldn't even watch the video all the way through. I saw it, or one like it a year ago, and it took a while to get it out of my head. It's strange that harvesting like this invokes such anger in us, but we can watch the bluefin farming video and feel completely different. I don't know why seeing someone killing a seal, or a dolpin, or a whale bothers us, but watching video of someone fighting a fish gets us excited. I wish that someone could put it into words. I think that it has something to do with the way that animals like that interact with us. There seems to be a greater understanding, or intelligence, or something. Shit I don't know. What I do know, is that if I ever get to a Japanese sushi restaurant, I'm staying away from the black slimy tuna-like stuff.

I draw the line for blood thirsty on our cold blooded slabs of yet un eaten wasabi and soy sponge...
If I switch gears to mammal flesh, I hold that animal in high esteem. There is not the same fever. Many deer walk by me and I can only think of their grace and beauty. Then I look at the other side of the coin. Where I deer hunt, they are grossly over populated and need to be culled to avoid mass starve off. For all that grace and beauty, I have to switch off emotions and let logic rule for those fateful seconds before and during the hopefully painless dropping of an animal. After all I am a carnivore... As I dress them I try to some how bond with them and explain my actions. I appologize to them and thank them for sharing their meat with me. Nothing goes to waste... I strive to make my shot one that they never see comming or feel.

"Where do we draw the line?"
i think we tend to give more value to what we consider higher life forms based on perceived intelligence. If think its fairly clear they are intelligent animals and mourn the loss of a mate or child. Also, unlike cattle, chickens, etc. that are bred, live then processed specifically for food, these are "free" animals that are captured for slaughter. What was displayed in the video was despicable.

It does suck I will agree.
But all of gods creatures are here for us to use/eat/manage/not overtake and be stewards of the land, sea and creatures. BUT, BUT...... I will be dammed if that is a humane way to kill something. How about a bullet or some way to quickly kill these creatures other than them suffering. I will admit seeing that one flailing around on the dock reminded me of my old lab during a seizure. Put the dam thing out of his/her misery geez!!!! IT does suck that they make them legal for food but you see as mentioned earlier these are the same people/ culture that worshiped an emperor and suicide was an acceptable means of showing dishonor. UNREAL!!!!!GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! DAM RICE CULTURE that is what is wrong with this whole scence here. I agree DEEP whenever I kill ducks, deer, turkeys I make sure nowadays to never take more than I am allowed and show them the respect of burying everything I shoot or kill. Worst part of the turkey hunt for me is the 5-10 minutes after pulling the trigger. My brother started a tradition a couple of years ago to pray before we hunt, the last thing we pray for is for us to be as deadly as possible with our shots, that is to clean kill our limit no cripples.....period!!! I have seen films of mother whales trying to protect their young and the bond that they have. Dolphines have the same bond...almost human like.
Now they differance between dolphines and any other type of animal we eat is this. You can walk up to the cow feeder at a farm and see a cow with a calf or a pig with a pigglet eating, shoot they calf or pigglet and they mother never misses a bite. They seem to have no soul, whales and dolphines do. ![]() |
