I took out my youngest son Owen (8), Jason Hearon and his boy Ryan (7) and Steve Cowan and his son Evan (9) to the 30 line yesterday. We arrived at the grounds around 7:30 and found chick birds right away. We put the lines in and trolled around for a while then had a knock down. We pulled the hook on a Skippy at the boat. We continued to work around for awhile and grabbed another Skip Jack. We decided to run off to the Baltimore. We trolled out that way and got bit off aby a Wahooo We got to the Balt around noon and trolled till 2pmn with only smalll YFT (16 inches) to show. The were Mahi on 1 poly ball but they had lock jaw. We tried everything from live minnies and sardines, squid ect....no bites
We tried chunking and live lining spot for an hour with no action. The boys all went swimming for 20 minutes while we put gear away.
We headed back into the 30 line and saw a ton of chick birds & slicks. We put the lines back out and got CRUSHED by 15 to 20 lb False Albacore for the next 2 hours. We also got a nice Mahi that Ryan caught. When we decided to leave Craig on the Fisher Hunter saw more chick birds about 5 miles from us and stopped and starting jigging. By the time we were running by him it was Game On. He had a triple header on and yelled for us to join him. I looked at Jason and we immediatly pulled back the throttles and pulled up to Craig. Web hammered YFT and Falsies till Dark. Most YFT were in the 30 inch range. We put the gear away and ran home arriving T.I. at 10pm, What a Marathon but the Boys had a Blast![]()
