Key West Charter Recs for Feb

A couple friends are heading S to KW late Feb. Marc does a lot of bluefin tuna and shark fishing with me off Cape Cod. And his new girlfriend is smokin hot

Any recs on Charter Captains/Boats out of Key West? What's biting in Feb? Troll for marlin, chunk for YFT?

try mike weinhoffer of compass rose- its a 36' yellowfin. he is tough to book since he has an insane amount of repeat and referred business but give him a ring anyway.

Probably Kingfish season there. Gotta go in the stinking heat for billfish my friend.

Just about peak season for Key West Sails in late February. Lots of great captains too. For sailfish, I can recommend Mike Weinhofer, Ralph Delph, Robbie Delph, Ken Harris, Chris Garcia and RT Trosset. All top notch light tackle guides. Most probably booked, but worth while trying.

Please take pictures of the fish and the lady angler!

Mike Weinhofer would be my recommendation also, followed by Rush Maltz. Both are great light tackle guys that won't take you out to the edge, put you in a chair and troll for cudas all day. Forget the YFT there is a very short time they are caught off KW. Best bet as stated above is sailfish, mahi and kingfish. The bottom fishing for snapper and grouper can be quite good. There is also the long run to the shrimp boats for blackfin tuna.

Completely agree with this post... if you want to do an offshore trip, go with Capt. Jim. He also wrote Dolphin: The Perfect Gamefish and writes many articles on swordfishing. Very experienced guy you can learn a lot from...
