Hi guys and gals,
Just a quick note to say that if some of you are fishing the World Cup in a couple of days time, then you might like to know that the new Director of the tournament (Mike Leech) has elected to change the rules - some of you may not know this.
Instead of fishing to IGFA rules, Mike has stipulated that line utilising a Manufacturers Stated Test appellation may be used, so - like the BBC - while you adher to IGFA rated 130lb or 80lb line, you may be up against boats using Moimoi 130 Diamond line which breaks at 240lbs or so.
This has been done to accomodate some boat owners who obviously feel disadvantaged by using legal line, or can't be bothered to buy and change what's on their reels. Some of you will know where to point their fingers !!!
If you're fishing and disagree with this change of ruling, which is not at all clear in the paperwork, I suggest you contact Mike Leech ( mike@bluemarlinworldcup.com ) and complain loudly that level-playing field that Jim Hardy worked towards so carefully over 22 years is now ploughed under in the name of numbers and hype.
It is my understanding that plenty of very well-known participants are refusing to enter the competition this year on these grounds.
Roddy
