Thumbs up Jim Muhlenberg's first tuna . . . 156 LBS!!!!!

Capt. John from Caveman Sportfishing wanted to make sure to give kudos to Jim Muhlenberg (18 yrs old) from his trip last week. We showed under another thread that they brought in a nice 156 lb BFT, but forgot to mention that it was Jim's first tuna trip and first tuna! Way to go Jim!

These size fish were pretty common about 4 years ago

Just a few years back we had fish like this one and even bigger on almost all our trips in July, August and part of September. I have lots of photo's of bluefin between 90-175 lbs plus caught chunking at the finger above Massey's,The Hambone and The Notch just North of the Hot Dog. Some of us charter guys actually tried to avoid these slubs because to many of our charters just could not handle these fish stand-up. I took 4 brand new Penn 50 wides back to Penn twice in one summer because the drags would not hold
up to these size BFT. This was all before any one chased scallop boats and we never went to the canyons until after Labor Day. If Jim's father brings him down to Morehead City, NC this winter and fishes with us for GBT he will consider this fish nothing more than a warm-up or practice fish. A 400-600lb GBT with a attitude will pull many times harder than a pup of 156 lbs. Congradulations James and hope to see you and your family this winter now that you ready for the really big boys
Capt John
