    Jerry Brown VS Momoi Diamond

I have been using Jerry Brown hollowcore as backing on my offshore reels for 2 years now with great success and love the stuff, but I've heard great things about the new Momoi hollowcore as well. I have not used it and was wondering if anyone has used both and what their impressions and opinions are about each. I am planning to use 100lb hollowcore on 2 new 50's I have coming in this week. I plan to splice the hollowcore to 100lb momoi Hi Catch. I usually use 80lb JB hollowcore to 80lb Momoi Hi Catch on my 30W's and 50N but for my 50W's I want to go a little heavier, no need for me to go to 130lb so 100lb suits me well. Anyone have any experience splicing 100lb to 100? I know a lot of guys splice lighter top shots to their backing but I prefer similar line ratings and plan to keep it that way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I plan to put line on both of these reels in about 2 weeks so I want to figure out what I am going with and purchase it. Thanks in advance!!

I dont have any experience with the 100, but I have two tiagra 80s with Momoi 130. I did direct splices into 130lb momoi diamond and it worked really well. fought a couple fish in the backing and never any problems. no problems splicing either, but in the end it all comes down to preference. good luck, its some expensive stuff, I have 8 50s that are hopefully going to get hollowcore this winter and its quite the investment.

130 is cheaper than 100 so general people try to go to 130. But its all preference. I like the idea of similar line ratings because in truth 130 breaks at much higher line ratings.

The diameter of 100lb JB is less than 100lb Momoi. Magnified by hundreds of yards, you'll see significantly more line on your reel if you go with JB. Both are very easy to splice. Cost-wise, your best choice is 130lb hollow on the 50W. You'll get over 600 yards on there plus your 100Y/100lb topshot and save almost $100 doing so on each reel, compared to loading 100lb hollow. If you are tournament fishing, 100lb hollow makes sense on a 50W. If not, the expense is hard to justify.

Maybe silly question but why is the 130lb JB less expensive than the 100lb

The process is which the line is made makes it more expensive for the 100lb.. the 130lb is larger in diameter and the way they are spun/briaded is a lot different and the 130 is a lot easier to spin compared to the 100..

it has to do with the amount of threads that go into it and the proces completely..

I've used both this season. The Momoi is slighly easier to splice in loops, but hardly worth the money to ever strip off JB to do so. Both are very nice hollow core braided lines.

IMO, I'd go with the cheaper of the two.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to go with 100 JB, I've had good luck with the JB and seems others are happy with it too. 130 would be overkill for what my fishing needs are and 100 suits me well, plus I plan to get into some tourney fishing and 130 will overtest whcih is another reason I do not plan to go that heavy. I'm more concerned with adding capacity to my gear then turning them into winches with heavy test line, I like to have a slight challenge and give the fish some hope.....little but some
