    So what's your point?

The southern Bluefin fishery is well established and well known.

    mmm, Mrs Hays.
Could that fish have been caught on a jig, whilst steaming to and from gear ?

I note what appear to be teasers, bungee lines, and crewmen nonchalantly making their way down deck as if caught below. Interesting photo, for sure....

I don't think so. You can just make out the mainline that the clusters are hanging from, and the gangion that fish was caught on as well.

Japanese longline techniques and tackle are slightly different than that used by U.S. vessels. I believe the tubes you see hanging off the mainline are some sort of luminous sleeves used as chafing gear.

As far as the nonchalant crewman, Japanese vessels have pretty large crews. He may have been on a lunch break. Probably Ramen or Udon noodles

I wonder if the fluttering things could be some kind of anti bird device, as we know that southern long line fleet has significant issues with albatross by catch. My guess would be the fish was longline caught.
