in my opinion "circle hooks" are the biggest lie out there right now. ive been to costa rica fishing, ive been to tropic star lodge, all use circle hooks. but dont tell me here in the northeast that im responsible for marlin mortality because i use a j hook. how on earth could you possibly gut hook a marlin? c,mon its next to impossible unless your sound asleep. i love how the fish is hooked with the circle but, to make it mandatory in tournaments is silly. also its easy to make a bait swim great rigged with a circle hook when you fish the fish bowl, it wont be out there more than 10 minutes. in costa rica the leader material they used looked like a slinky sailfish still came up on it. try that here. if you ask me there is no benefit to this form of logic.....what do you think is a big lie in big game fishing?

how many tournaments allow live bait? not where we are. i know what your trying to say but, i have never seen anyone pull live skipjack. if i did it would be with a circle but ,not for any other reason than its" better". not because it reduces mortality. last year in the wilmington there was a great bite. i caught two blues and a white on little stubby's. tinsel! if i had a skipjack or two, would i pull them? yea....i would do it. but it wasnt necessary. im not fishing in mexico, costa rica, or panama, for most around here its the good old mid-atlantic. i know a lot of guys out of cape may....not many have ever pulled a live bait. not here they haven't . thats why i say circle hooks are a joke. they dont need to be mandated......depending on where you are fishing. you can decide for yourself!
