Headed down to Islamorada last Thursday to chase sails for 3 days and man what a great experience this was.Having not never fished down there,Iwas estatic to say the least.Headed out every morning, about a mile from the slip to catch bait, and this was worth the price of admission just seeing the amount of bait down there, anchored up in about 15-20 ft of water threw out a chum bag,and wait about 15 minutes and like magic the ballyhoo/cigars minnows would be right behind the boat.We used small spinning reels with fresh shrimp and caught one after another, and I have never seen ballyhoos with colors like these, there backs were irredescent blues and greens, and some were just a beautiful blue all over.
Anyway on to fishing,we would leave the bait and run all of 3 miles away and start fishing.(I could get use to that real quick.)Fished a 4 line spread all on spinning reels w/20lb.line and 50 lb.leaders, bails open and a small piece of wire wrapped around the rod, that had just enough tension to hold the line.( That was new to me and worked real well)Fished Fri.Sat.Sun,ended up Fri.going 3 out of 5,Sat.we had no bites, and Sun.the bite for us was on fire for about 3 hrs. but only managed 1 out of 7 !!!!!!!!!!

There was a Sail tourney going on down there, and if we would have entered it we would have done fairly well in it...
If we could have kept those fish on Sunday tight..Going back after Christmas when the bite starts getting into full swing..
