    Islamorada help Early May...

Can someone recommend accomodations, charters (both back bay and offshore) and hangouts in Islamorada for a late April early May trip?

Also what to expect trolling offshore, wahoo, dolphin, billfish??? or would we be better to do some reef fishing for grouper, snapper and the like?

    Thanks, much appreciated!

    JT

There was a post recently about Holiday Isle. There are charters there, but alot of them are moving due to the sale of the isle. There are several still there however. Plus, it was a cool place to hang several years ago. Bud & Mary's is cool too.

I used to stay at the Kon Tiki, individual units, clean, reasonable. If you rent a boat elsewhere, they have a dock on the bay where you can tie up with a fish cleaning station. Neat saltwater pool stocked with all sorts of fish! (NO FISHING!! )

We are currently doing some packages with the Islander with some great room rates. Our boat is at Bud n Mary's . "Thats Right" can accomadate more than 6 people .We also will have a center console also down there at the time. As for fishing, Capt. John Oughton usually does it all in the same day. Here are some links for the package. Hope this helps.

Last time I was in Islamorada which was about a hundred fifty years ago, I took a charter from Robbie's. I was fortunate to book the owner as my guide. I probably enjoyed his stories more than I did killin' fish. Then again, I kill 'em for a living. I guess you can call it a living. I always wonder why it is that I make a living on the water, and then go someplace on vacation and pay someone to take me fishing. Life's always a mystery. They had a great sports bar down there on the right that rents rooms for cheap money. Kelly's Sports Bar, I believe. They may have changed their name by now. They tend to cater to locals, divers mostly. I also stayed at Whale Harbor Inn. I thought Kelly's was a bargain. I'm sure there are guys on here that know a whole lot more about the fishing scene down there than me. Just thought I'd share my thoughts. I caught more fish out of Key West but I had more fun at Islomarada. If you don't do anything else down there, have fun. Storm
