    I have a question - is there any reason not to clip something like this onto a cleat rather than use a rod n reel?

    I believe he was just pulling it from a rod while he was testing it. I think it would be best pulled from a cleat, although from a bridge teaser would be fine too.

    He had it set at 16lbs. of drag so any good bridge teaser reel should handle it and most outriggers. Shot-Gun off the bridge rail would also work well and keep it centered.

    The entire array floats so if a line is parted for some reason you can just turn and go get it. Too expensive to just let it go.
