    Question Inmarsat Sat Phone

Has anyone on here had an positive or negative experiences with the new Inmarsat satelite phone??? We are replacing our ultra crappy Globalstar, and I was hoping this was the unit for us. Fishing as far 100 miles offshore in the mid-atlantic, it would be nice to know if they work before we plop down the $$$.

    Thanks,

As long as you don't plan on usung in the Alska northern regions, it is advertised as giving good coverage, we use it in PVF and get a strong signal, smaller and less expensive plans than Iridium

FranticPace turned us on to these phones and we bought one and have been very happy with it. The boss has made up to 1hr long calls and hasn't dropped any calls and coverage and signal is always good down here in Mexico.

I don't have any direct experinece....but have read mixed reviews.....with the main complaint being signal acquisition time.....this was all based out of operations in U.S. waters.......there were also issues with cost of incoming land based calls originsting in the U.S.....

    Have one love it!

I own one of the Inmarsat phones. I had it 3 days after they were released in the US. I have had no issues at all with the phone. One thing you can try is when you open the antennea face to the South, these are geo-stationary sats and that is were your best signal comes from. I will agree it will not work under your hardtop, but I have not waited any longer than 2 mins to aquire a signal. and once aquired leave your phone on the battery life is huge or bring the 12v charger. Call quality is great with a slight delay but most sat phones have some delay. For the money really a great phone and affordable talk time as well. Just my 2cents
